My 3rd time I’ve painted from a reference photo by myself…

20180502_011058I couldn’t be happier with how I’ve noticed lately that my skills are actually improving! I think I hit this one out of the park! What do you think? 8″X10″ on 140 lb Canson watercolor paper CP. I used Rembrandt’s artist pastels and Blicks artist pastels and Jack Richeson med soft artist pastels.

Unfortunately I had already framed it and was lazy and didn’t want to take it out so u may be able to see my reflection in the glass. I apologise for this amaturish mistake but I am a amature after all.

A new way of working got me out of a creative “rut”!

My attempt at a demo by Marla Baggetta.jpgIve been painting for 5 years and practice OFTEN! And i just have so much fun when i paint! But as of late i couldn’t decide what to paint and i got aggravated.  But then i decided to try painting and approach the painting process differently than i usually would’ve.  So i took to YouTube videos and i like Marla Baggetta! I like how she uses minimal preliminary drawing and just responds to what the painting needs. She simplifies the landscape into 5 or 6 major shapes and sizes and values. And treats the elements in the landscape abstractly and then models form. Absolute genius i thought! She goes on to say if youre feeling a bit uncomfortable than youre probably doing it right. But i felt on the contrary and the painting is one of my bests if not the best ive done to me anyways.

A Work in progress

20180421_143837.jpgI saw this painting in The popular watercolour series Splash this book is the second one and its about 150 watercolour artist’s breakthroughs.  The painting is in watercolour but I wanted to try it in pastel. Its by Carl J Dalio AWS.

Heres my attempt at the block in with a few places complete but theres gonna be some scumbling and glazing still to do. The first image is the reference of the original painting…i used Jack Richeson medium soft artist’s pastels and Rembrandt artist pastels and some Mt.Visions and Unisons on Canson 140lb cp watercolor paper with Artspectrum sanded primer toned Aubergine an amazing surface to paint on! 20180421_06044920180420_194612.jpg
